From 100 subscribers to 4 million views in 15 months

If you're sitting at 100 subscribers right now wondering if this YouTube thing is ever going to work, I want to tell you about Kevin.

Because a year ago, he was you.

Back in January 2025, Kevin had 61 subscribers.

Today, he's got 40,000 and just crossed 4 Million Views.

A lot can change in 15 months and I hope by sharing Kevin's story, you feel a bit encouraged and motivated.

When we first started working together, he was posting on TikTok, YouTube Shorts, and getting started with long-form.

Doing a little bit of everything but not making much traction with any of it.

Sound familiar?

He was incredibly motivated, and knew he had more to offer than just the value he provided at his day job.

He was just new, and he didn't know what he didn't know.

One of the first thing I told him was to stop splitting his attention and to focus on long-form videos.

He listened, and that helped a bit.

But the real turning point came when Kevin stopped giving general budgeting advice for pre-retirees and got waaay more specific.

He had downsized from a traditional home with a mortgage into a tiny home shed conversion.

Instead of talking about budgeting in the abstract, he started sharing his actual life. The process, the lifestyle, the financial benefits most people don't realize that comes with dramatically less housing overhead.

And perhaps more importantly, the mindset that less is more.

People couldn't get enough of it.

His channel, AskPawPaw, took off.

By April 2025, he'd grown to 5,000 subscribers.

Today he just crossed 40,000 subscribers and 4 million total views.

Over the lastt year, he's landed sponsorships. He's built a community. He launched his first digital product last week and made more in 7 days than he earns in two weeks at his day job.

All while working full-time with a two-hour round-trip commute.

Now let me be straight with you.

Kevin is an edge case. Most people won't hit those numbers in 15 months.

But his early growing pains are universal, and we can all learn from his willingness to narrow his focus.

And what's remarkable about Kevin is just how quickly he was able to tap directly into the needs of his viewers.

He's lived through a legitimate struggle that many people suffer through (saving for and managing finances near retirement).

He figured out a solution and then he shared that solution. And he did it from a place of genuine intent and good will.

So here's the question for you.

What is the solution you're providing your viewers?

What problem do they struggle with?

What are you learning in order to become more useful to them?

If you don't know the answer to these questions, I would challenge you to spend more time with these questions.

The more clear the problem you're addressing, the easier it'll be for your audience to find you.

Ty

P.S. The clarity Kevin found on who he was helping and what problem he was solving didn't happen by accident. If you want that kind of focus for your channel, book a call.

Once upon a time — October 2024 — I was 3 months into YouTube, and tracking my progress in a Google Sheet toward the elusive goal of getting monetized on YouTube. The rate I was gaining subscribers and watch-time meant I had a looong road ahead. At the exact moment I took this screenshot, the math said it'd take me another 93 weeks of posting twice a week — 172 more videos — just to hit 4,000 watch-time hours. 93 weeks is nearly 2 years! And because Watch-Time Hours on YouTube fall off on a...

He got monetized in 1 month, in just 9 videos. That's probably the quickest I've seen anyone get monetized. His name is Tristen. He'll make more in 2 days from AdSense than I'll do this entire month. And I couldn't be happier for him. You might be asking... Is he some kind of YouTube savant? No Does he at least know what he's doing? He'll say no, but more-so than most. Does he make great videos? Actually yes, he's wonderful on camera, knows his subject and edits like a pro. But there's a lot...

Hey I've got a killer idea for you. This will be a fun one! I posted a video earlier this week called "I'm begging you to make boring YouTube videos." Coincidently, one of my former clients, Rachael, made her own version of it. I swear we didn't plan this. (well sort of) Hers is called "I'm Begging You to Check Your Hoyas" (She's a plant momma 🌱) And I'm happy to report, both videos are performing well above average. 💪 Mine is currently a 2 of 10. And for Rachael, it's a 1 of 10. She even got...
